Edoardo Grappolini
Edoardo W. Grappolini is a Ph.D. candidate at IMDEA Networks Institute, where he conducts research under the supervision of Dr. Domenico Giustiniano. His work involves Embedded AI for 5G/6G Unmanned Aerial Networks, specifically aimed at advancing the capabilities of smart farming.
His doctoral research focuses on the design and implementation of intelligent models capable of multi-modal information fusion. By integrating data from diverse sensors with advanced image sensing, he develops the analytical frameworks necessary for drones to interpret complex agricultural environments in real time and act on the information. His work provides the essential “intelligence” layer that enables autonomous aerial platforms to contribute to high-precision agriculture.
Edoardo brings a strong practical perspective to his academic research, shaped by two years of professional experience in the technology sector. He spent a year navigating the fast-paced environment of a startup, followed by a year at a major Italian technology consultancy firm, where he focused on analyzing customer needs and delivering robust technical solutions for enterprise-level challenges.
He holds his academic degrees in computer engineering from the University of Florence and further expanded his research profile through a six-month stay at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany. This combination of international academic collaboration and industrial expertise fuels his commitment to developing reliable, data-driven solutions for the next generation of digitalized agriculture.
